Let me start by explaining what the met gala is.......... its organized by the metropolitan museum of art costume institute. Its a benefit aimed at raising funds for the institute's department of fashion (and boy have they been raising some serious funds........). This event happens every first Monday of may. This year's exhibit was manus x machina (man versus machine) : fashion in the age of technology. The designers who dressed the celebrities esp for the red carpet intro really took this theme to another level, the interpretation, the aesthetics, the fabrics, the points of view, the crafts man ship was all at a 10. We got to see dresses that glow in the dark, latex gowns, steel arm suits and so much more, but of course the show stopper was Claire Danes glow in the dark gown by designer zac posen........................ take a look at this work of art .................... There were so many other designers who also did an amazing job to be featured later in the post. The met gala has a reputation of raising millions for fashion like last year they raised 12.5 million dollars imagine how much they made this year................... The center piece of this years exhibit was made by Karl Lagerfeld of Channel. This might just look like a 1980's wedding dress with a long bedazzled tail but the technology and technique applied to this dress is simply amazing. It was first sketched by hand, then manipulated on a computer to give it the complex pattern, then the pattern was hand painted on the train, then transfer printed by a machine then finished by hand and crafted with gem stones......... When will this kind of technology reach us here in Kenya (just a thought).......
We could go on about the met but lets take a look at some of the beauties that rocked the red carpet................... Thanx for your company.................... ALWAYS BE GLAMOUROUS!!!!!!!!

A long time ago there used to be a prejudice against big people. They never fit into average clothes, cant get on a bus properly, they sweat too much, are always thinking about food the list is endless there was always something the public (in this case the thin and self proclaimed sexy) found wrong. But not in this day and age. The name has changed (or rather gotten a make over) from "FAT" to " PLUS SIZE" or "FULL FIGURED". They are all over the internet and have succeeded in killing the "FAT" syndrome. WE have celebrities like Googoo Atkins who encourage big people to eat healthy, tone their bodies and accept their full figures as God gave. We are most exceptionally proud of our very own plus size model miss Aimee Ronoh. She is not only fabulous but also gorgeous and dresses her body in the most smashing ways. she makes everything work.
Glitz, Glamour, style, class, statements, sophistication, detail, creativity you name it they brought it........... The celebrities who graced the africa magic viewers choice awards 2016 in Lagos Nigeria Literally brought the House down with some serious fashion. We also had our very own Rober Burale, Diana Opoti and Sharon Mundia grace this high end event. Boy arent we inspired............. and they say africa has no fashion statement to make , am sure after this red carpet they heard us loud and clear.................... below are some of our favourite looks.
The Nairobi Elegance Affair was the buzz of fashion for upcoming designers. As Glamourville, we decided to go for chiq and stylish looks that exemplify the man and the woman. We were also excited to publish the looks for this year! This gave us the motivation to launch the platform and create looks that exemplify every look and become effortless. Whether you are going bridal, having a sunny day, would like to look classy or want to dress up like him, this collection exemplified those looks!
We would also like to thank the contributions and the support of those in attendance. Your support was insurmountable. The following collection has been a very significant part of our growth and we are happy to attract more glamour's for the year. We have learnt many lessons and working to improve ourselves in the next stage. The feel of this collection was not only for the fun but also for the elegant and classy. Everyone's taste and personality was created to suit the looks and transverse the general highlights of the day. Some of the lessons we learnt about the event include: -> Be ready for anything -> Work as a team -> Do not panic -> You did it! Sit down/stand up and enjoy the show #beglamouville We are Glamcited!
We will be taking part in the Nairobi Elegance Affair this year! You are welcome to see our beautiful designs filled with colorful aspects, creativity, passion and youthfulness! Our Hashtag for the day is: #beeffortless and then add #Nairobieleganceaffair for the event. For more info, you can contact Pendo on +254(0)727801444 or Elsie on +254(0)707491794 !We will be more excited to see you and experience your full support! Well when you look at that photo maybe what you see is 8 beautiful ladies in gorgeous dresses but when i look at that photo i see one lady with a dream and 7 ladies who helped bring it to life. The fashion and lifestyle fun day marked the beginning of an empire that is going to take nairobi by storm. The crowd's reaction when our glam queens hit the run way was electrifying. Who would expect to see plus size, medium size and short models hit the run way and strut it the way they did. This line can only be described by 4 words "elegance, class, glamour and style". The designs are both descent and appealing. They bring attention to the right places in the right way and essentially that is what every woman needs. we had a mission to show ladies out there that u can send out a clear message about yourself without having to say a word and i believe we achieved that. Best thing about this line is that it is very affordable. better things are coming.
So this being our first fashion show we are anxious to the bones. We confirmed attendance quite late meaning our preparation process was done in a hurry. None the less, we have learnt a lot.
LESSON 1: ALWAYS BE PREPARED Just because you do not have an upcoming show does not mean you shouldn't have all the details ready. One of my favorite quotes is "success is when opportunity meets preparation" . Have your business cards ready, have a full line sketched and detailed, have a production system set up, have models or a modeling agency on stand by and always be mentally ready for anything. LESSON 2: DONT WORK ALONE Its always a good feeling not to have to worry about something. Get someone you can work with and get to work. LESSON 3: KNOW WHEN TO SAY NO When we were coming up with the budget for this show we wanted it all, the big banners, the expensive cards, the expensive fabric e.t.c But at some point we had to say no. always work within your capacity. It is good to be risky and stretch your boundaries but always know your limits. sometimes too much is just enough to break you down or tear you apart. Prioritizing is key. |
